A historic<\/span>
\nsite<\/span><\/h2>\n

The name “Batailley” derives from the “Bataille” (Battle) that took place between the French and English on the same estate in 1453. The French also recaptured Ch\u00e2teau Latour this very same year, marking the end of the Hundred Years\u2019 War. Ch\u00e2teau Batailley is one of the oldest estates in Pauillac. Making wines<\/span>
\nsince the 17th<\/sup> century<\/span><\/h3>\n

Vines have been planted on this rich piece of land since the 17th<\/sup> century. In the 18th century, three siblings of the Pauillac-based Saint-Martin family bought the estate. In 1791, the two sisters sold their shares to Guillaume P\u00e9cholier, a Bordeaux wine merchant.<\/p>\n

In 1816, Daniel Guestier, from the company Barton & Guestier, bought the Ch\u00e2teau, modernising it, increasing the area of the vineyard and improving the quality of the wine. His son then took over the estate 1847.<\/p>\n

The Guestier family asked Jean-Pierre Barillet-Deschamps, a landscape architect serving Napoleon III, to design the six-hectare estate. The Parisian banker Constant Halphen acquired the property in 1866.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row full_height=”yes” columns_placement=”stretch” equal_height=”yes” content_placement=”middle” el_id=”section-4″][vc_column css_animation=”fadeInLeft” width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]\n

A Grand Cru Class\u00e9<\/span>
\nfrom M\u00e9doc<\/span><\/h2>\n

In 1855, Ch\u00e2teau Batailley was placed in the Cinqui\u00e8me Grand Cru Class\u00e9 du M\u00e9doc category, mostly thanks to the improvements made under Daniel Guestier.<\/p>\n

The M\u00e9doc wines classification was introduced at the request of Napoleon III, who spoke to Bordeaux wine merchants at the Exposition Universelle of 1855 in Paris.<\/p>\n

\nthe Borie brothers<\/span><\/h3>\n

The brothers Marcel and Francis Borie bought the estate in 1924, marking the start of the Borie-Cast\u00e9ja period for Ch\u00e2teau Batailley. Denise Borie, daughter of Marcel Borie and wife of Emile Cast\u00e9ja, inherited the Ch\u00e2teau in 1961, which was run by her husband for the next 40 years before their son took the reins in 2000. The Ch\u00e2teau\u2019s <\/span>

A programme was launched in 2002 to ensure the excellence of wines produced on the estate.<\/p>\n

Following vat house renovation works in 2006, it was now possible to pursue plot-by-lot wine-making.<\/p>\n
